Hostile Skies RANKED Mode
Persistent ladder from Bronze to Ace.
RANKED mode is the persistent competitive ladder for Hostile Skies. It runs on a separate universe (game ID 1886551928) and uses its own matchmaking, ranking, and rewards. This page explains the ladder, the ranks, the rewards, and how to climb from Bronze to Ace without burning out.
What RANKED mode is
RANKED mode is a separate game universe that Widgeon opened in August 2026. It uses the same planes and flight model as the main game but with a persistent ladder, stricter matchmaking, and its own reward track. Ranked matches are 6v6 dogfights on the standard map with no respawn cap.
Ranks
The ladder has eight ranks. Each rank has three sub-divisions.
| Rank | Color | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Brown | New pilots. Most of the lobby here. |
| Silver | Grey | Solid basics, climbing out of the bottom 50 %. |
| Gold | Yellow | Mid-tier skills. Most long-term pilots land here. |
| Platinum | Blue | Strong fundamentals, ready for squad play. |
| Diamond | Purple | Top 10 % of the ladder. |
| Master | Red | Top 3 % of the ladder. |
| Ace | Lime | Top 0.5 % of the ladder. |
| Phantom | Animated | Top 50 pilots on the global ladder. |
How ranking works
You earn or lose rating points based on match outcome and opponent rank. The exact formula is hidden, but two rules hold:
- Beating a higher-ranked opponent gives more points than beating a lower-ranked one.
- Losing to a much lower-ranked opponent costs more points than losing to a peer.
A typical pilot climbs from Bronze to Gold in 30 to 60 matches if they play three to four nights per week. Diamond takes another 100 matches at minimum.
Match rules
- Roster: All planes are allowed. The matchmaker builds rosters that match both sides on average rating.
- Map: Standard dogfight map. The eastern map rotates in twice per day.
- Respawns: Standard pool; no extra respawns.
- Match length: Best of three rounds.
- Disconnect penalty: A disconnect counts as a loss and a 30-minute queue lock.
Rewards
RANKED rewards are separate from the main game. They include a unique ranked banner, ranked skins, and at the end of each season, a permanent Ace skin for the top 1 % of pilots.
| Rank | End-of-season reward |
|---|---|
| Bronze | Bronze banner |
| Gold | Gold banner |
| Platinum | Platinum skin |
| Diamond | Diamond skin |
| Master | Master skin |
| Ace | Ace skin |
| Phantom | Permanent Phantom banner and skin |
Rewards ship 14 days after the season ends. Each season runs roughly 90 days; the first season started in August 2026.
How to climb to Ace
The most common climb pattern is:
- Bronze to Silver (matches 1–15): Focus on basics. Pick one plane, learn its energy envelope, and stick to it. Avoid switching rosters.
- Silver to Gold (matches 15–40): Add a second plane from the opposite faction for queue variety. Run Phantom mode warm-ups to keep your turn-fighting sharp.
- Gold to Platinum (matches 40–80): Squad up. Five-pilot premades climb faster than solo pilots because the matchmaker pairs them against other premades.
- Platinum to Diamond (matches 80–150): Lock a role in your squad. The strongest climbers are squad anchors who play patient boom-and-zoom.
- Diamond to Master (matches 150–250): Counter-pick. Read the opposing squad’s roster and pick the plane that disrupts their rhythm.
- Master to Ace (matches 250+): Optimise. Every match matters. Watch your replays and patch the most common death first.
Rank decay
Ranks do not decay between seasons. Your end-of-season rank carries over to the next season. The ladder resets at the start of each new season: every pilot drops one sub-division but keeps their rank. Phantom rank is exempt from reset.
Ranked etiquette
- Do not smurf. Playing on a sub-account to stay in lower ranks is a banable offence.
- Do not queue-dodge. The matchmaker penalises queue-dodging with a 15-minute lock.
- Communicate. Use voice chat in your squad lobby to call targets and airspaces.
RANKED vs Phantom mode
RANKED mode and Phantom mode are two different competitive formats. Phantom mode is a fixed 6v6 stealth-jet bracket that drops with every v3.5.x patch. RANKED mode is a persistent ladder that uses all planes. Pilots who main Phantom mode typically also climb RANKED because the energy-fighting skills transfer. Pilots who main RANKED but never queue Phantom mode miss out on the credit events and the Phantom-specific balance changes.
