Hostile Skies Phantom Mode
Stealth-jet 6v6 brackets explained.
Phantom mode is Hostile Skies’ high-stakes 6v6 stealth-jet bracket. It locks every queue to the Phantom, the Gloster Meteor, and the Me 262, so matches come down to pure energy-fighting skill. This page explains how Phantom mode works, the rewards on offer, and the loadouts that win it most consistently.
What Phantom mode is
Phantom mode is a competitive 6v6 mode introduced in the v3.5.1 “Phantom” patch. Each team fields the Phantom (Axis) and the Gloster Meteor (Allied) on the standard side, with one Axis slot for the Me 262 if your squad has one. Matches run best-of-five rounds over the eastern map with reduced radar range and full cloud cover.
How to queue
- Open Hostile Skies and pick Phantom mode from the lobby selector.
- Choose Allied or Axis. Phantom mode mirrors the standard faction split.
- You can queue solo or with up to five other pilots on the same team.
- The matchmaker pairs six-pilot premades against other six-pilot premades first, then fills with solo pilots.
- Phantom mode queues are open for ten days after each v3.5.1 launch window. Off-season, the queue re-opens as part of weekend events.
Allowed planes
| Team | Allowed jets |
|---|---|
| Allied | Phantom, Gloster Meteor, M22 |
| Axis | Phantom, Me 262 |
The Allied side has a slight edge in jet variety thanks to the M22. The Axis side compensates with a second Phantom slot on most rosters. If your squad cannot field six jets, the matchmaker still pairs you with another mixed squad.
Scoring
Each match is best of five rounds. Scoring follows the standard dogfight rules with two adjustments:
- One bonus point for a clean round (no team respawn).
- One bonus point for capturing the central radar tower.
Capturing the central radar tower halves the opposing team’s radar range for ninety seconds, which is decisive in the late rounds. The first team to three round wins takes the match.
Rewards
- Match completion: 1,500 XP per pilot.
- Round win: 2,500 credits per pilot.
- Match win: 7,500 credits per pilot, plus a 24-hour Phantom skin unlock on five match wins.
- Bonus window: the first 48 hours of Phantom mode grant 2x XP and credits on every match.
- Top 16 weekly finish: a permanent duelist banner.
How to win Phantom mode
Phantom mode rewards energy fighting. The Phantom has the highest top speed in the game but the worst turn rate. Players who try to turn-fight in the Phantom lose to any Gloster Meteor that plays patient. The trick is to force the Meteor into boom-and-zoom traps where the Phantom’s speed advantage decides the round.
Recommended loadouts for Phantom mode:
- Allied Gloster Meteor: rocket pod, two-gun configuration, lightweight engine upgrade. The Meteor trades a bit of HP for raw speed; play it as a boom-and-zoom fighter.
- Allied M22: default rocket pods, full ammo upgrade. The M22 is the most forgiving jet in the bracket; bring it if you are new to Phantom mode.
- Axis Phantom: default loadout, no upgrades. The Phantom does not benefit from upgrades in Phantom mode — the bracket is balanced around the stock plane.
- Axis Me 262: default loadout. If you have a strong Me 262 pilot in your squad, slot them in as the lead and play support around them.
Squad composition
A winning Phantom mode squad has three roles:
- Two lead fighters — the strongest dogfighters in your roster. They take the contested airspace and force the opening rounds.
- Two support fighters — patient pilots who boom-and-zoom around the edges. They pick off damaged jets and protect the lead fighters.
- Two anchor pilots — the most consistent pilots in your roster. They hold the central radar tower and refuse to overcommit.
What to avoid in Phantom mode
- Do not turn-fight in the Phantom. The Gloster Meteor and M22 will out-turn you every round.
- Do not chase kills. Phantom mode rewards radar-tower captures and clean rounds more than kill counts.
- Do not spawn-camp. The anti-cheat penalises spawn-camping with reduced XP payouts.
How Phantom mode ties into the larger meta
Phantom mode is the testing ground for jet balance. Every patch since v3.5.1 has adjusted the Phantom, the Gloster Meteor, and the Me 262 based on Phantom mode win-rate data. If you main jets, Phantom mode is the highest-leverage place to play — both for credit grinding and for tracking the meta shifts that affect ranked play.
Phantom mode and the v3.7 patch
The v3.7 “Carrier” patch did not change Phantom mode rules. The Phantom top speed was reduced by 8 km/h and the Gloster Meteor turn rate increased by 1°/s. Both changes show up in Phantom mode directly; expect more booms and fewer turn traps on the v3.7 ladder.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Phantom mode the same as RANKED mode?
No. Phantom mode is the in-game 6v6 stealth-jet bracket that drops with every v3.5.x patch. RANKED mode is a separate persistent ladder with its own ranking and rewards. Both use the Phantom, the Gloster Meteor, and the Me 262 as the core jet set.
How long does a Phantom mode match take?
About 12–18 minutes including lobby time. Each round is two to three minutes, and most matches finish in three rounds.
Can I queue Phantom mode solo?
Yes. Solo pilots are paired with other solo pilots and small squads. The matchmaker prefers six-pilot premades, so expect longer queues during off-hours.
